GLD EXCEEDING: 0.0%  (National: 6.0%) -6.0

Although the school recognises that the overall GLD remains below National Expectation, there has been an increase in GLD of +5.2% from 2017. This is a result of Early Years being identified as a Key Issue on the School Development Plan during the academic year 2017 – 2018.

Whereas the gap between Male & Female pupils is minimal, the school is aware that there still remains a significant gap between Pupil Premium Pupils and Non-Pupil Premium Pupils.

The school also recognises that more work needs to be carried out regarding its pupils with the potential to achieve Exceeding at GLD by the end of Reception.

As a result of the above information, Early Years will continue to be a key issue on the School Development during the academic year 2018 – 2019, with a focus on Pupil Premium Pupils & Pupils Achiecving Exceeding.

At the end of this current academic year there is a predicted attainment level of 73% will be further increase from 2017 – 2018.

The school celebrates its success in the progress that pupils make during their time in Early Years.

In all 7 areas of the Early Years Curriculum, more than 95% of pupils made expected progress, with more than 90% of pupils making more than expected progress.

With regard to Male/Female & PP/Non-PP, the gap in progress between each group is minimal.

  Phonics Results 2018

END OF YEAR 1: 77.00%     (National: 83.0%)

RE-TAKE YEAR 2: 3 Pupils – 66.7% Pass

The school recognises that the Phonics Score this year is below National Expectation and that there has also been a decrease from previous years (2017: 93%). However, when looking at the cohort and individual pupil needs within this cohort, the score attained was close to the predicted end of year target with the majority of pupils able to pass the screening test scoring 32 or more.

As a result of the above information, additional staff have been placed in Year 2 during the academic year 2018 – 2019 to support the 7 pupils that did not pass their Phonics Screening Test by providing additional Phonic sessions and Literacy Intervention.

Writing is in-line with National Expectation.

Maths is slightly below (1 Pupil Difference) National Expectation.

Reading is below National Expectation.

As a result of the above information, Reading will continue to remain as a key issue on the School Development Plan for the academic year 2018 – 2019, with intervention being implemented in the areas that the children are finding most difficult.

The school recognises that it needs to continue diminishing the gap between Pupil Premium and Non-Pupil Premium Pupils in Reading & Writing but celebrates its success in reducing the gap between this group in Maths by 13.7% last year.

In addition, school needs to continue to work hard to ensure that there is an increase in the number of pupils achieving Greater Depth, especially for Pupil Premium Pupils.

The school carefully tracks the progress of its pupils from Reception to the end of KS1. Within this cohort, 2 pupils joined Hindsford towards the end of KS1, therefore their data is not included in the results below.

More than 89% of pupils made expected progress in Reading from Reception with 7 pupils making more than expected progress – 3 of these pupils moved from expected to exceeding and 4 pupils moved from working towards to expected.

More than 93% of pupils made expected progress in Writing from Reception with 4 pupils making more than expected progress, all moving from working towards to expected.

More than 89% of pupils made expected progress in Maths from Reception with 6 pupils making more than expected progress – 4 of these pupils moved from expected to exceeding and 2 moved from working towards to expected.

Although the majority of the 6 Pupil Premium Pupils did not achieve National, they did all make expected progress in all three subjects from Reception, with 3 making more than expected in Reading, 1 in Writing and 2 in Maths.

Writing, Maths, GPS & Combined overall is above National Expectation. Reading overall however is slightly below National Expectation, although there has been an increase of 2.0APS from the previous academic year 2017 – 2018 in this subject, in addition to an increase of 10% in the number of pupils reading at Greater Depth.

Out of the 15 Pupil Premium Pupils, 5 of these pupils were also on the SEN register, which significantly impacted the attainment results for this group. All of the remainder of pupils within this group achieved National in Maths, SPAG & Writing with the majority also achieving National in Reading.

The school however recognises the need to continue to focus on increasing the number of pupils achieving Greater Depth as well as diminishing the gap between Pupil Premium & Non-Pupil Premium.

These two areas are key issues on the School Development Plan 2018 – 2019.
